Train Tracks ("we", "us") is an iPhone app for training and fueling — including generated Ironman and 70.3 race plans. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we never do with it. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run your training and fueling, we don't show ads, and we don't sell your data.
What we collect
Account information
You sign in with Sign in with Apple or a phone number. If you use a phone number, a one-time code is delivered by our verification provider (Twilio) to confirm it's yours. Your account identifier is an opaque token derived from your number — your phone number itself is never stored in your account records or training data. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive the identifier Apple provides plus — if you choose to share them — your name and email address (which may be Apple's private relay address). Your name is used to greet you in the app; neither is used for marketing.
Training data
Your race date and distance, your answers to the onboarding questions (recent sessions per week, longest run, longest ride), your generated plan or training block, and your workout history — completions, skips, and post-workout effort ratings (RPE). This is the product; without it there is no plan.
Nutrition and body data (optional)
If you use the Fuel features, we store what you enter there: your nutrition profile (height, weight, birth year, and sex — used to compute your daily calorie and macro targets), your weight entries and weight goal, and your food log — foods, meals, portions, and favorites. Fuel is optional; the training features work without it.
Food lookups and AI estimates
When you scan a barcode or search for a food, the barcode number or search text is sent to Open Food Facts and the USDA FoodData Central database to look up nutrition facts — no account information goes with it. When you photograph a nutrition label or type a food description ("a slice of pizza and a beer"), it is processed through our server by Anthropic's Claude to extract or estimate macros, which you review and confirm before anything is saved. Label photos are never stored — they are read once and discarded, and requests to the AI carry no name, email, or other account identity.
Strava activities (optional)
If you connect Strava, we import your completed activities (sport type, time, duration, distance) to match them to planned workouts. We request read access only. You can disconnect Strava at any time in Settings, and you can revoke Train Tracks' access from your Strava account settings.
Purchase information
Subscriptions are billed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to validate receipts and manage subscription status. We never see your card details — Apple doesn't share them with developers.
What we don't do
- No selling or renting your personal data. Ever.
- No advertising or ad trackers in the app.
- No reading Strava data beyond what's described above.
- No storing your phone number alongside your training data.
- No storing your label photos, and no sending your identity to AI or food-database providers.
Where your data lives
Training data is stored locally on your device and synced to your account in Google Firebase (Firestore), so your plan follows you if you change phones. Access rules restrict every account's data to that account alone.
Service providers
We share data only with the processors needed to run the service: Google Firebase (authentication and database), Twilio (delivery of phone verification codes), RevenueCat (subscription management), Apple (sign-in and billing), Strava (activity sync you initiate), Anthropic (reading nutrition-label photos and estimating macros from typed food descriptions), and Open Food Facts / USDA FoodData Central (barcode and food-name lookups). Each receives only what its function requires.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account any time in Settings → Account inside the app, which permanently deletes your cloud data. You can also email us at admin@burgundyjournal.com and we'll delete it for you.
Children
Train Tracks is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
